With both of my kids I have had gistational diabetes where I have either needed medication and or insulin. Some part of me thought I would forever have diabetes so for the most part I ate like I was diabetic. I would eat only small portions of whites like potatoes, white rice, or white flour. I always had diet sodas and would TRY to diet off and on.
This January I felt so sick I went to the Drs 2x a month no matter what I ate I got sick and to top it off no matter how much soda I drank I could fall asleep with a blink of an eye! The Dr noticed that my sugar was elevated like the 300 range in Feb.... along with my cholesterol, my thyroid and my liver enzymes. So he says your diabetic I said ok! We moved on but with that being said he said there is something wrong with your liver and so I don't want to put you on medications for every thing else.
The Dr had me take test after test to figure it out what was wrong with me. He found nothing wrong but in the mean time I did not know that everything in my body was getting WORSE a lot WORSE! Finally the Dr put me on medication for my diabetes and said "I don't know what is wrong with you so I will see in 2 months."
With a little fast forwarding I found a another Dr. I mean who wants a list of things that are wrong with them and then be told that they will not be seen for another two months without knowing what is wrong and how to fix it. By mistake I found Laura Hennicker she was my Dr about five years ago but did not know she still worked there . I made an appointment with her and was so excited until she said "well lets do a full blood panel and start fresh!" I thought OMG she has to be kidding! I have gone through so much!
I went like a good girl and took my blood panel... by six o'clock that night a off duty nurse called my home and said " Do not drive but you need to go to the ER now! Your blood sugar is 607! This is serious and do not take it lightly" I WAS NOW SERIOUSLY DIABETIC!
~My life was going to forever change Wed. March 31st 2010 @ 6pm!~
On my way to the ER I called my mother-in-law, who was at a book club meeting, to see if she could bring me home (as I could not drive). She IMMEDIATELY left her meeting and came to the ER. (By the way, I HATE this ER, but that's another story.)
When they finally got around to seeing me, instead of a doctor with pleasant bedside manner, I get the mother of all evil doctors. He was mean and sarcastic. He proceeded to tell me that the reason I didn't like him was that I was "not in my right mind." Excuse me??? Oh no, couldn't be that you're RUDE could it???
By this point, I was having difficulty speaking and was literally falling asleep standing up. And thought process? There was NONE!!!! After some insulin, my sugars dropped to 495 and Dr. Rude finally released me to go home with orders to follow up with my doctor the next day (and so on). Which I did.
